You made history!

The Derwent Art Prize 2022 received a record number of submissions: over 6,100 entries by 2,325 artists from 43 countries.

All of the works were considered by a prestigious panel of selectors, Katy Hessel, host of The Great Women Artists podcast, Paul Hobson, Director of Modern Art Oxford, and Charmaine Watkiss, artist.

“I’ve been really impressed by the technique of everything, the expression, the sheer breadth of what we’ve seen” says Katy Hessel, art historian and host of The Great Women Artists.

“Some of the submissions have been extraordinarily imaginative” agrees Paul Hobson, Director of Modern Art Oxford.

“I’ve enjoyed seeing the imaginative use of pencils, just readily accessible materials. I’m really looking forward to seeing the works in real life, up close” concludes Charmaine Watkiss, internationally renowned artist.

After careful consideration, the three selectors shortlisted 72 works by 55 artists for the Derwent Art Prize 2022 exhibition.
